The station

Work, Rabbi Nachman, a train station and a song? A few days ago, on the morning train, I listened to Merav Sman-Tov's excellent podcasts. She hosts talented creators. On the way, I managed to listen to Efraim Sidon and Kushnir – and both of them talked about creation as work. This perspective is familiar to me, but it never caught me at the moment when the magic happens. The real work, for me at least, is not created when I sit down to write "according to a schedule." It emerges in an unexpected moment – bubbling, erupting, almost spontaneously. Yes, there is work – a lot of it. Gathering materials, lists, excitement about a film, crying under the blanket, lines written on napkins, recordings, arrangements… But the moment of lightning – is a gift. And yet, something in what they said ignited me. And on the train, I said to myself "Let's get to work" – I simply sat down to write. And when there is no inspiration, we write about what is right in front of our eyes: a train car, dozens of different people, roads, the station, the way to work, and Rabbi Nachman – perhaps one of the greatest teachers our generation has known. So is the work planned or does it burst forth? Maybe both. But it is always there. An inseparable part of my life. And I hope that when my poems meet you – they become part of your life too. The photo was taken at the Beersheba station as the sun rises, on one of the many trips to Haifa.
